Maitri is a humble but ambitious initiative of a few women of Chennai (India) aimed at providing a better learning experience to the economically under-privileged society. "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". At Maitri, we provide quality academic education, coupled with basic universal values to the children from the under-privileged strata of society, going beyond cheque book charity. Thus, Maitri not only molds them at an impressionable age, but helps build a future generation with ‘self-confidence’, ‘self-reliance’ and ‘good character’. With Care Concern and Commitment, you can make a huge difference to the lives of these children in the "Anganwadis".
Under-privileged children of two to four years are provided with Montessori education by well trained Montessori
teachers. This is the most crucial period when intellectual and emotional development happens in a child. Naturally we
do not want this precious phase to go uncared.
This programme is aimed at students of 10 to 15 years of age studying in corporation and government aided schools. It is
a wonderful mixture of basic soft skills and universal values. It also brings awareness on Environment Protection,
Personal Hygiene, Community Living etc..through other service providers/NGOs.
This programme is aimed at students of 6 to 9 years of age, studying in corporation and govt. aided schools. It is to
provide basic knowledge of vernacular language and basic Math skills with the help of volunteers.
As a pilot project, we work with one school in R.A. Puram to impart Leadership skills through Sports. Through committed sports resources, we train the children in various sports by providing minimum of two physical training classes per week. We encourage and prepare them to participate in inter school and intra school sports activities.
